It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the tragic death of South African rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA. AKA, as he was fondly called by his fans, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Friday night outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban, South Africa. His death leaves the hip-hop community in shock and grief-stricken, and his fans in utter disbelief.


AKA was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and rose to fame with the release of his single “Victory Lap” in 2011 that was featured on his debut album called Altar Ego. His single “Fela in Versace” became an instant hit in Nigeria and made AKA a known name in the West African country as well. His fans fondly remembered him for his passionate performances and for his music that had a mission to influence change in society.

At the time of the incident, AKA was on his way to celebrate his birthday at YUGO nightclub in Stamford Hill along with his bodyguard and a close friend. Unfortunately, both AKA and his friend met with untimely death while his bodyguard was injured in the shooting.

The news of AKA’s death has stirred shockwaves across the hip-hop world, with many celebrities paying tributes to the rapper. Musicians, media outlets and fans alike are paying their respects for the late rapper, and sending their condolences to the family of the victims.
