It’s an exciting time in Nigerian music – with the recent announcement from DJ Tunez, Wizkid‘s official Disc Jockey, that he plans on collaborating with street-hop artiste, Portable.
Tunez, in a bid to get the singer’s attention, took to his Twitter page on Friday and declared his intention, using one of Portable’s numerous slangs. Hours later, Wizkid’s personal DJ happily announced that Portable had surprisingly contacted him over the phone.
For those unfamiliar with the backstory, Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, had earlier attacked Wizkid’s musical talent in response to Wizkid’s recent criticism of rap artistes. Portable called out Big Wiz for not being too talented, suggesting he uses autotunes to amplify his sound, or else nobody would be able to understand the lyrics. He also expressed being perturbed about Wizkid’s constant singing about women and wondered if the award-winning artiste ever sang about the Lord.
Naturally, most people were not surprised by Portable’s criticism of Wizkid, as there has always been an intense rivalry between rap and pop genres within Nigerian music. But, all the more reason why fans were pleasantly surprised when DJ Tunez publicly declared his intention to work with the Zeh Nation boss.
